Aetna Inc. is a health benefit company with three core businesses: Health Care, Group Insurance and Large Case Pensions. Health Care consists of health and dental plans offered on both a risk basis, where Aetna assumes all or a majority of the risk for health and dental care costs, and an employer-funded basis, where the plan sponsor under an administrative service contract, and not the Company, assumes all or a majority of this risk. Health plans include health maintenance organization, point-of-service, preferred provider organization and indemnity benefit products. The Group Insurance segment includes group life insurance products offered on a risk basis, as well as group disability and long-term care insurance products offered on both a risk and an employer-funded basis. Large Case Pensions manages a variety of retirement products, including pension and annuity products, primarily for defined benefit and defined contribution plans.
