American Financial Group Inc. (AFG) is a holding company which, through subsidiaries, is engaged primarily in property and casualty insurance, focusing on specialized commercial products for businesses, and in the sale of retirement annuities, life and supplemental health insurance products. AFGs property and casualty group has been engaged primarily in specialty and private passenger automobile insurance businesses that have been managed as two major business groups: Specialty and Personal. AFGs annuity and life operations are conducted through Great American Financial Resources Inc., a holding company that markets retirement products, primarily fixed and variable annuities, and various forms of life and supplemental health insurance through subsidiaries. GAFRI offers a variety of life and supplemental health products through subsidiaries. In November 2003, the Company merged with its subsidiary, American Financial Corporation.
