(AIG) is a holding company that, through its subsidiaries, is engaged in insurance and insurance-related activities, principally general insurance and life insurance, in the United States and abroad. The principal general insurance company subsidiaries are American Home Assurance Company; National Union Fire Insurance Company of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; New Hampshire Insurance Company Lexington Insurance Company; The Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company (HSB); Transatlantic Reinsurance Company; American International Underwriters Overseas, Ltd., and United Guaranty Residential Insurance Company. AIGs operations are conducted principally through four business segments: general insurance, life insurance, financial services and retirement savings and asset management.
