Legg Mason, Inc. is a holding company that, through its subsidiaries, is principally engaged in providing asset management, securities brokerage, investment banking and other related financial services to individuals, institutions, corporations, governments and government agencies. The Companys asset management segment provides asset management services to institutional and individual clients and investment advisory services to Company-sponsored investment funds. The private client segment distributes financial products through its branch distribution network, including equity and fixed-income securities, proprietary and non-affiliated mutual funds and annuities. The capital markets segment consists of equity and fixed-income institutional sales and trading, corporate and public finance advisory and underwriting activities, as well as corporate structured financing activities. The other segment consisted principally of the real estate service and mortgage banking business.
