Citigroup wants to get rid of its top executives

Citigroup wants to get rid of its top executives (by Sh. Nakata)

The world biggest banking company Citigroup on Wednesday dismissed its three top executives for the sake of improving its reputation after the scandal in its Japanese private bank.

In his memo issued Tuesday, the company’s Chief Executive Charles Prince announced the names of the departing executives. They are Deryck Maughan, Thomas Jones and Peter Scaturro, the memo said.

Last month, the company’s private unit in Japan Citibank was ordered to be closed within the violation of Japanese laws in its activity as the bank saw charges for improper conducting of checks against money laundering. Moreover, the company also was strongly criticised for the manipulation on the European bond market earlier this year and had to apologize for an accident.

Sir Deryck Maughan was vice-chairman for the company and was ruling its international division. Thomas Jones was a head of investment management and the third one to leave Peter Scaturro was running the company’s private banking.

Mr. Prince declined to provide the reasons for executives’ departure.
