Check 21: future trends

Check 21 plastic system is expected to be applied in the U.S. soon as consumers are to use more ‘familiar’ payment option.

While using the Check 21 system, banks will cut paper checks as they are to create an electronic image or a ‘substitute check’ (a paper reproduction of the original check). The image replacement document (IRD or the substitute check) will lead to emerging of new opportunities for the information exchange.

Check 21 is also expected to force the re-engineering of internal record-keeping and document controls for checks and payment verifications, specialists say.
