A TowerGroup estimate showed that the potential market for payments of less than $5 is valued at $1.32 trillion pointing at the possibility for the US vending industry to expand on the micropayments market.
The amount of smaller purchases from credit cards is growing rapidly, although cash is also used widely. The National Automated Merchandising Association estimate shows that by 2009 50% of vending machines in the US will accept card payments. The study also showed that Americans use up to 75% more while purchasing from vending machines by means of credit cards.
Pepsi-Cola North America is one of the first companies that decided to come to the vending market by allowing its customers to use credit cards.
Vending machine operators also benefit from monitoring sales and machine functions for maximum uptime.
