European shares closed lower on Tuesday hit by the weakening dollar and surging oil prices.
In U.K.: Shell declined 0.40% to 493.25. Barclays Bank fell 1.22% to 605.00. Diageo was up 0.60% to 759. HSBC slid 0.50% to 892. Vodafone fell 1.6% to 138. Unilever slipped 0.70% to 500.
In Germany: Bayer tumbled 1.46% to 26.40. Infineon added 2.21% to 7.85. SAP slid 1.05% to 122.00. Allianz fell 0.58% to 93.22. Deutsche Bank fell 0.57% to 66.25. BMW slipped 1.22% to 32.30. DaimlerChrysler declined 0.59% to 35.39.
In France: Alcatel rallied 2.72% to 9.82. BNP Paribas added 0.46% to 54.80. EADS tumbled 4.60% to 23.45. Renault fell 1.67% to 67.90. France Telecom tumbled 2.14% to 22.86. Danone slipped 0.13% to 74.10.
US STOCK MARKET
U.S. stocks ended lower on Tuesday after oil prices break $51 a barrel.
The Dow Jones Industrial tumbled 174.09 points, or 1.61%, and closed at 10,611.13. The S&P 500 fell 17.40 points, or 1.45%, to 1,184.19. The Nasdaq Composite fell 28.30 points, or 1.37%, to 2,030.32.
FOREX
In the currency market, the euro rocketed to $1.3256 from $1.3065 in New York late Monday. The dollar fell to 104.06 yen, from $105.55 yen.
