Infineon Technologies AG, Europe’s second-largest chipmaker, agreed to pay $150 million to end a five-year patent battle with Rambus.
Rambus Inc., a designer of high-speed memory chips, said the companies came to the conclusion that it is better to end a long-lasting legal battle over patents.
``I don’t want to imply that we’re bosom buddies, but we have the opportunity. Infineon is paying us a large amount of money and we have to work with them to show them the value of what they’ve paid for,’’ said Rambus Chief Executive Harold Hughes.
Under the terms, Infineon will pay $50 million over nine quarters starting November 15. It will also pay $100 million more if Rambus signs licenses with other chipmakers.
