(by Olivia Cohen)

Yahoo boosts e-mail storage fourfold to compete with Google Yahoo Inc. has an option to lift the storage for its free e-mail accounts to 1 gigabyte within growing competition with Google’s Gmail.

On Tuesday, Yahoo announced that the expanded e-mail storage will be available by mid-April. It is a huge progress for the company that offered only 4 megabyte a year ago. Its current storage amounts to 250 megabyte.

Yahoo also said it will intensify its antivirus protection for free e-mail users.

Google’s Gmail allows customers to use the biggest storage of 1 gigabyte. It has been testing the system for a year.
