U.S. airlines will be ordered to carry out detailed rudders inspection for certain Airbus jets after a March 6 in-flight incident in which the rudder nearly fell off a Canadian charter A310, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration said Friday.
The Canadian incident called new attention to the tail and rudder system of the A300 family.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) urges operators of the Airbus A310s and A300s listed to U.S. carriers to conduct rudder inspections within three months. The planes have been operated in the United States by cargo giants FedEx Corp. and American Airlines.
"To date, we have seen no indication of any irregularities in our aircraft," FedEx said in a statement. American Airlines have not given any comments.
A similar directive covering nearly 400 planes, including those flown by American and FedEx, was issued by French aviation regulators last week.
