Sony to pay $90 mln in damages to Immersion
(by Sh.Nakata)

Sony to pay $90 mln in damages to Immersion Sony will pay as much as $90.7 million in damages to San Jose, California-based Immersion Corp.

The company was also ordered to halt its popular PlayStation2 console as Immersion claimed Sony violated two of its patents and used them to create tactile feedback features.

In September, a federal jury in Oakland ordered Sony to pay $82 million in damages to Immersion.

"We have always believed, and continue to believe, in the strength of our intellectual property. We remain confident of our position in the appeals process," said Immersion Chief Executive Victor Viegas.

Immersion has already received $7 million in compulsory license payments from Sony after the court’s decision in favor of Immersion.
