(by Dr.Goldfinger)

General Motors Corp.’s China unit named the successor for the ousted Philip Murtaugh who stepped down as the unit’s chairman and managing director «for personal reasons».
Kevin Wale, chairman of Vauxhall Motor and GM’s UK operations, will replace Murtaugh as the unit’s chairman.
Earlier, Wale headed GM’s Asia Pacific division, so cannot be named a beginner on the market. "Kevin has a proven track record in sales, marketing, planning, finance and overall management. In addition, his strong background in the region and ability to work within partnerships make him a natural choice to continue our participation in the growth of the Chinese automotive industry and market," said GM Chairman and CEO Rick Wagoner.
Murtaugh has been heading the unit for nearly five years since July 2000, making GM’s China Group one of the strongest in the market after the US and Japan.
The report did not disclose the reasons for the chairman to step down. Mr. Murtaugh said it has nothing to do with the unit’s recent sales slowdown.
"Details of Murtaugh’s replacement are being finalized and an announcement is pending," GM China unit said in a statement.
Last year, the unit sold 5 million cars, trucks and vans under the tenure of Philip Murtaugh.
