Matsushita and LG Electronics prefer cross-license agreement to lawsuits
(by Sh.Nakata)

Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. and LG Electronics Inc. settled a five-month dispute over alleged trespass patents on their plasma display technology.
Both parts decided to settle the lawsuit amicably cutting a cross-license agreement on their technology, the companies announced in a joint statement. Any other details or financial terms were not revealed.
The dispute between Osaka-based Matsushita, the producer of Panasonic, and South Korea’s LG, had arisen after Matsushita plasma displays were debarred in South Korea and LG displays were suppressed in Japan.
This is the second time the Japanese and South Koreans have reached settlement in the past year over plasma display technology. Previously, Suwon, South Korea-based Samsung SDI Co., the world’s biggest maker of plasma displays, and Tokyo-based Fujitsu Ltd. settled their dispute in June the same way.
Global shipments of plasma display panels are to gain 33 percent to $14.2 billion this year, Junzo Masuda, an analyst at ISuppli Corp., projects.
After the announcement, shares of Matsushita rose 0.3 percent to 1,587 yen in Tokyo. LG fell 0.9 percent to 687,000 in Seoul.
