Boeing subsidies accord turns sour
(by Olivia Cohen)

Boeing subsidies accord turns sour Despite Wednesday’s speech of the European trade commissioner Peter Mandelson with expressed hopes for fruitful negotiations in resolving Boeing-Airbus subsidies, issue an accord is unlikely to be reached.

The dispute turned to a scandal shortly after Mr. Mandelson moved to the office of his predecessor Pascal Lamy and launched the probe over the longlasting subsidies issue.

He accused the former United States trade representative Robert B. Zoellick, now deputy secretary of state of «essentially taking instructions from Boeing». Mr. Mandelson also added that Zoellick has to «get rid of all Airbus launch investment and to do so immediately.»

Mr. Zoellick retaliated by the accusations that Mandelson was negotiating with him through media. "That is not the way I did business with Commissioner Lamy," said Zoellick, a longtime friend to Lamy.

Both parties said they received no accord over the issue but are hopeful for positive results.
