Advanced Micro Devices Inc. had filed its flash memory chip business for initial public offering.
While AMD’s computer chip business has hit record sales increasing against its dangerous rival Intel Corp., its memory chip business has failed because of fierce price competition.
AMD’s lost $17.4 million while its a year-earlier profit made $45.1 million.
Spansion is the largest producer of flash memory, using extremely popular silicon technology that can store data even when power is off.
However, analysts said the public offering could force AMD’s stock price to rise.
AMD officials said the company planned to represent next week a new generation of computer chips called "dual-core," which would combine two microprocessors into one.
