The Chicago-based Boeing yesterday said Air India agreed to buy 20 of its new 787 Dreamliner airplanes. The statement follows Monday’s victory when Air Canada announced an order for 32 wide-body airplanes in a deal that can give the aerospace giant more chances to regain the leadership in the industry.
Boeing also started talks on sales with other companies, such as Korean Air Lines and Northwest Airlines. The number of Boeing’s orders for the 787s total 217 now, and the company enjoys satisfactory sales of other models, 777 among them.
"This is better than we ever could have imagined," said Michael B. Bair, Boeing’s program manager of the 787."It’s hard to put a word on it. Phenomenal, gratified, excited. We’re really, really pleased with how this is unfolding."
Airbus, in its turn, intends to develop A350, a plane taken as a direct competitor to the Dreamliner. But while the last is getting optimistic trends, competitor’s A350 is stumbling in its sales.
