The equity mutual funds started gaining profits as the prior week with its losses passed.
The funds gained an average of 1.1% for the week ended October 21. "Economic news formed a generally sunny picture for the September economy, but raised some warning flags about the months to come," said Michael Porter, a senior research analyst for the research company Lipper.
Funds for small capitalization were luckier than those of the large one and growth funds outperformed value funds. Growth funds were up around 3% and value funds went down 0.3%.
The majority of the fund groups, but for financial services funds, gained in the week, data shows.
