Americans ignore health insurance

(by Dr. Goldfinger)

The number of the U.S. citizens having no health insurance grew in 2003, specialists say.

15.6% of the U.S. population had no health insurance in 2003. It is slightly more than 15.2% in 2002, the U.S. Bureau of the Census reported. Besides, only 60.4% of the Americans had employer-provided coverage as compared with 61.3% in 2002. It is also noted that number of people being under government health insurance programs, such as Medicare and Medicaid, lifted to 26.6% in 2003, higher than 25.7% in 2002.

The figures can be explained with a drop in employment-based coverage, specialists add.
