According to the Association of British Insurers data, almost 9 million UK women do not have savings for retirement
Association’s research showed that women have fewer chances to save for their retirement against men, having several “extra” issues, such as childcare, lack of state support and employers refusals to contribute.
Around 35% of women are out of a pension scheme, while only 25% of men do not belong to it.
Another issue is that women are less pension-confident as only 3% understand it properly. "Women are clearly at greater risk than men of facing poverty in their retirement," said Joanne Segars, head of pensions and savings at the ABI.
"The savings industry, government and employers must work together to help women save for a decent income in retirement," she added.
