Royal moves workforce to India

(by Mark Riley)
Royal & SunAlliance, second-biggest general insurance company in Britain, announced on Monday it will transfer as much as 1,100 jobs to India to raise the number of employees in the country to 1,200 within a couple of years.
The move is aimed at general costs cuts as job costs in India and other Asiatic countries are considered to be much cheaper.
British job reduction will mainly be held by means of natural turnover and redeployment, the company said. The cuts will touch call centres, administration, and processing functions across Britain, it added.
Job transfer to India is said to save up to ₤10 million a year, Royal spokesman said.
"We work in a very competitive environment and processing some of our work in India will not only help us control costs but will also give us greater operational flexibility," Royal CEO Duncan Boyle said in a statement.
The company declined to comment over its further actions in India.
