General Motors, the biggest car maker, said it has started negotiations with unions to cut jobs in Europe.
Car giant is going to cut as much as 12,000 jobs in its Europe unit that suffered losses recently.
Job cut comes amid a worker strike at Germany Opel car plant aimed at protesting slashing jobs. "We will fight on and we will show the company our teeth," said worker representative Franco Biagiotti. On Thursday, workers stopped the production paying no attention to plant executives and government calling them to go back to work.
Moreover, General Motors said it was going to cut the number of managers in Europe. "We are going to reduce costs by at least 15% for management," said one manager. "The management team was also too big," he added.
