The US blue chips went up Wednesday on soothing data that inflation eased as consumer prices fell.
Procter & Gamble Co. shares added 2.2% to $53.41. Apple Computer rose 3.3% to $88.06 on the news about its new MP3 player. Intel Corp. dropped 2.6% to $23.13.
Accredo Health Inc. which was announced to be bought by Medco Health Solutions Inc. added 38.8% to $41.97 on the news. Medco slid 1.2% to $42.91.
The blue-chip Dow Jones industrial average added 62.74 points, or 0.59%, to close at 10,673.94. The Standard & Poor’s 500 index rose 6.70 points, or 0.57%, to end at 1,190.86. The Nasdaq Composite Index edged up 0.93 of a point, or 0.05%, and finished at 2,031.25.
