The U.S. consumer price index (CPI) rose 0.4% in February from 0.1% in January, according to the Labor Department. Economists were expecting 0.3%.

Excluding food and energy prices (core-CPI) the index rose 0.3% from 0.2% last month. Economists were expecting 0.2%.
