German Ifo index fell to an 18-month low
(by Mark Riley)

German Ifo index fell to an 18-month low According to the German Ifo institute, business confidence unexpectedly fell to an 18-month low on high oil prices and the strength of euro. The Ifo index fell to 94, the lowest since September 2003, from a revised 95.4 in February. Economists were expecting an unchanged reading.

``The increase in oil prices and the appreciation of the euro are basically eating up the modest recovery that is gradually emerging,’’ said Lorenzo Codogno, from Bank of America.
