China starts «trial sales» of shares China’s government said it had an option to launch «trial sales» of shares in an attempt to avoid chaos in the nation’s stock market.

The China Securities Regulatory Commission, the country’s securities regulator, said that «conditions are right to start trial sales of state shares.» The move is aimed at protecting individual investors, according to the report issued by the watchdog.

The report also disclosed that state shares totaled about two-thirds of the market’s allover capitalization of $448.1 billion at the end of 2004.

Still, some worries remain as analysts and public investors say a share sale may put prices under pressure. On the other hand, this is now the only option to vitalize sluggish market conditions, they say.

Further details of the plan were not disclosed in the report.
