Mortgage applications rose 6.1% in the week ended April 8,

Mortgage applications rose 6.1% in the week ended April 8, U.S. home mortgage applications rose 6.1% in the week ended April 8, on purchasing and refinancing activity, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA).

The seasonally adjusted index rose to 683.6. The seasonally adjusted index of refinancing applications rose 5.6%to 1899.6.

The purchase index advanced 6.4% to 474.5.

Refinancings accounted for 38.1% of total applications, the adjustable-rate mortgages reached 35.8% from 35.2%.

Fixed 30-year mortgage rates averaged 5.95%, up 0.04% from 5.91% last week.
