U.S. GDP rose 3.1% in the first quarter

The U.S. GDP rose 3.1% in the first quarter, the slowest growth in two years, according to the Commerce Department. Economists were expecting 3.5%. For the total 2004 U.S. economy grew by 3.6%. Deflator rose 3.2% in the first quarter. Economists were expecting 2.1%.

After the release of the data the euro rose $1.2920 from $1.2901.

The benchmark 10-year bond rose, its yield fell to 4.20% from 4.22% before the data.
