European shares closed higher on Tuesday.

The Dax Index added 21.52 points, or 0.51% to 4245.54, the FTSE 100 Index rose 59.50 points, or 1.24% to 4861.20, the CAC 40 Index climbed 17.16 points, or 0.44% to 3955.93.

In U.K.: Barclays Bank was up 1.30% to 544.00. Diageo rose 1.10 and closed at 782.50. HSBC added 1.44% to 847.50. Vodafone rose 1.28% to 138.00. Unilever climbed 1.21% to 503.00. Shell rose 0.32% and closed at 471.00.

In France: Alcatel advanced 0.72% to 8.42. BNP Paribas added 0.97% to 52.15. EADS advanced 0.41% and closed at 22.26. France Telecom declined 0.09% to 22.86. Danone was up 0.07% to 73.20. Renault fell 0.38% to 65.25.
