European shares closed lower on Tuesday.
The Dax Index declined 10.31 points, or 0.23% to 4396.64, the FTSE 100 Index was down 7.30 points, or 0.15% to 4982.50, the CAC 40 Index fell 16.31 points, or 0.40% to 4102.06.
In U.K.: Barclays Bank added 0.18% to 546.50. Diageo advanced 0.25% to 804.50. HSBC rose 0.06 and closed at 868.0. Vodafone tumbled 4.78% to 139.50. Unilever fell 0.72% to 549.50. Shell added 0.63% to 479.50.
Cable&Wireless tumbled 2.47% o 128.50 after the company’s rating was lowered.
In Germany: Bayer rose 0.59% to 27.30. Infineon fell 0.06% to 7.14. SAP was up 0.45% to 132.90. Allianz slipped 0.01% to 93.29. Deutsche Bank slipped 0.45% to 61.87. BMW fell 0.11% to 34.76. DaimlerChrysler dropped 0.49% to 32.32.
In France: Alcatel tumbled 1.41% to 9.07. BNP Paribas advanced 0.63% to 55.50. EADS was down 0.56% and closed at 23.13. France Telecom slipped 0.76% to 23.61. Danone rose 0.20% to 74.80. Renault dropped 0.79% to 69.20.
