Osama bin Laden emerges on the Internet

Osama bin Laden may be still alive, suggests the audio recording posted Thursday on the Internet. The speaker, allegedly bin Laden himself, was giving praises to Saudi militants who attacked the U.S. consulate in Jeddah on December 6.

"We ask God to be merciful with the mujahideen who stormed the U.S. consulate in Jeddah," said the voice on the tape.

The tape could not be verified but the voice sounded similar to that of Osama’s previous recordings.

The speaker labeled current Saudi rulers "corrupt Zionists" who continued "an extension of the crusader wars against Muslims." Osama called for a rebellion overthrowing the Saudi government as they do not allow their people to follow true Islam.

At the time, Osama bin Laden is believed to have survived the war in Afghanistan that overthrew the Taliban regime and to be hiding on the Afghan-Pakistan border.
