This Sunday Al-Jazeera television broadcast a videotape reproducing the speech of Osama bin Laden’s deputy, Ayman Zawahiri, blaming U.S. government for not stopping its attacks, and claming that the security of Western countries depends much on respect for the Islamic world.
He explains that “the truth about reforms and democracy that America alleges it wants to impose in our countries." "Reform is based on American detention camps like Bagram, Kandahar, Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib; it will be based on cluster bombs and imposing fine on people like Karzai and Allawi."
"If you Western nations believe that these cartoon governments will protect you from our responses then you are deluded," he said. "Real security is based on mutual cooperation with the Islamic nation on the basis of mutual respect and the stopping of aggression."
The tape was released on Saturday but the date of the recording is doubtful. Mr. Zawahiri claims he was speaking three years after the first prisoners were taken from Afghanistan to the United States Naval base at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba.
The other puzzle about this videotape is that it is a part of a longer one, but the experts couldn’t agree on its length. It is also thought to be a copy of the other one that was in the network criticizing the "rigged elections" in Iraq.
