Bill Gates was greatly confused when presented with an honorary knighthood from Britain’s Queen at Buckingham Palace, London, on Wednesday.
The richest man in the world was bestowed by the Queen with the title of Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire in recognition for his contribution to charity as his Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has so far committed $4.9 billion to good causes. The Foundation’s aim is to improve the health of people in the developing world.
"I’m very lucky to have been involved in Microsoft and obviously the resources I get from that are going to the foundation," said Gates in an interview after the ceremony.
He also added that the Queen is not so keen on computers. "She said all the kids do and they are very useful but typing is not as natural for her as it is for young people," said Bill Gates about the Queen’s attitude.
But the founder of Microsoft will not be called “Sir” as he is neither a British nor Commonwealth citizen.
