US fails to talk India into cutting its pipeline deal

The US failed to persuade India as to its pipeline deal with Iran amid the sanctions imposed on it after Iran’s refusal to quit its nuclear enrichment program.

Condoleezza Rice’s visit to Asia is mainly focused on India’s possible agreement with Iran.

"Our views concerning Iran are well-known, we have communicated to the Indian government our concerns about the pipeline," she said.

She also discussed future sales of F-16 fighter planes to both India and Pakistan. "We did express concerns about several matters on the defense issue," Indian Foreign Minister Natwar Singh.

Rice’s six-day visit to Asian countries is also aimed at resolving North Korea problem and talking to Pakistan about the status of the war on terror and discussions with Seoul, Tokyo and Beijing.
