Pinochet to have more long-term links with U.S. banks

A U.S. Senate committee reported on Wednesday that General Augusto Pinochet, former Chilean dictator, were discovered to have had more extensive cooperation than it was thought before.

U.S. official institutions have reported that Pinochet was practicing the money transfering through 125 bank accounts in U.S. The scandal was mainly focused on the Riggs Bank and other eight institutions that operate in the United States and around the globe. The report proves that the former dictator had his accounts a long list of banks among which are Bank of America, Banco de Chile in the United States, Espirito Bank in Miami and some offshore private banks.

Earlier, the committee possesed the account information that identifies Riggs having had an eight-year cooperation with Pinochet. But the new discoveries showed that Riggs and Citigroup had ties for more than two decades, with accounts totaling at least $9 million held by members of his family.
