Anatoly Chubais, the top Russian energy official, was a target of an attack this Tursday in the suburb of Moscow. An explosive device set near his armoured car exploded. Chubais’ bodyguards returned fire. Fortunately, Chubais was not injured.
A few days before the energy president said that he was expecting an attack, and today he has some suppositions on «who is behind all this». In the interview Chubais didn’t voice any assumptions on whether the attack is linked to his economic or political life.
In 1998, Chubais has established a transformation reform plan in order to streamline the debt-laden UES, beset by chronic problems in gathering payment while its government-regulated tariff system charges far below European market rates.
