911 virus creator sentensed

U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of California reported that the creator of 911 virus, a Louisiana man was sentenced to six months of prison and will pay Microsoft Corp. more than $27,000.

He was spreading the virus through MSN TV that was applied for connecting to internet. The virus reprogrammed users’ computers to dial emergency dispatch numbers.

A Louisiana man was sentenced to six months in prison for sending a malicious program via e-mail that caused Microsoft WebTV customers to call the 911 emergency service being unaware of it, according to a statement released by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of California.
