Dutch businessmen charged with Kurd 1988 genocide
(by Tash Koon)

Today a pre-trial heareing was held in a Rotterdam court accusing a Dutch businessman Frans van Anraat, 62, for been related to the Kurd genocide in a 1988 attack on Hallabja.

Mr Anraat sold the chemicles to Saddam Hussein at that time and the Dutch prosecutors are sure that he knew that the chemicals will be used for producing weapons.

Today Mr Anraat was not required to justify himself. He has admited his guilt concerning chemical deals with Saddam. Nevertheless he stated that those actions were neither wrong nor illegal.

He told a Dutch magazine, Revu, in 2003: "The images of the gas attack on the Kurdish city Halabja were a shock. But I did not give the order to do that. How many products such as bullets do we make in the Netherlands?"
