Cold War diplomat Kennan dies at 101
(by Olivia Cohen)

Cold War leading diplomat George Kennan has died at age 101, the leading media said Thursday. His contribution to the post-Cold War policy was enormous.

According to Reuters, he died on Thursday night at his home in Princeton, New Jersey.

Kennan wrote an article under the pseudonym "X" in Foreign Affairs in July 1947 where he argued for a policy of containing what he saw as Soviet expansionism, Reuters said.

He also was among those who convinced the US to pursue a "long-term, patient, but firm and vigilant containment" of the Soviet Union and Josef Stalin.

Mr. Kennan criticized the Reagan administration policy in the 1980s.
