Zoellick - Mandelson talks bore no fruit
(by Olivia Cohen)

The US and European Union held talks on the long-lasting issue linked to Boeing-Airbus matter. The results are not quite optimistic: both sides tried to accuse each other.

Robert Zoellick, an outgoing US trade representative, and Peter Mandelson, EU trade commissioner, accused each other of derailing talks that have lasted for more than a week.

The US said Mr Mandelson tried to terminate the call of an hour-long conference. “Commissioner Mandelson is quite a skilled communicator,” a US official said.

The US has an option to extend the terms of its January 11 deal before an agreed April 11 deadline.

"It is now demonstrated conclusively that [the EU is] not prepared to follow through on that agreement," says Richard Mills, a U.S. Trade Representative spokesman.
