Bush allows to move Schiavo case to federal courts
(by Olivia Cohen)

Bush allows to move Schiavo case to federal courts The US President George W. Bush and Congress ruled out today that the case of Terry Schiavo, a brain-damaged woman from Florida, will be moved to the federal courts jurisdiction.

The majority of Congressmen said it is vitally important to keep the woman alive. "When a person’s intentions regarding whether to receive lifesaving treatment are unclear, the responsibility of a compassionate nation is to affirm that person’s right to life. In our deeds and public actions, we must build a culture of life that welcomes and defends all human life,"said House Judiciary Committee Chairman James Sensenbrenner, R-Wis.

According to statistics, about 4,000 people may die each day, «where there’s a conscious decision to limit treatment in some way."

The number of the patiens with the persistent vegetative state (PVS) grows very fast. The annual cost of caring for these patients may grow to $7 billion.

Terry Schiavo has PVS since 2002. She is one of the numerous number of people that are not allowed to die and pursue vegetative way of life. Earlier, her husband claimed the tube removal, but he is unlikely to succeed.
