Kyrgyz opposition on its way to Bishkek
(by Olivia Cohen)

A motorcade with the Kyrgyz opposition activists on Tuesday started its long-way trip to the capital of the country which is 500 km from Osh, the initial point for the strong opposition movement inspired by the revolutions in Georgia and Ukraine.

The number and the names of the opposition leaders were not specified.

The opposition has been struggling for the ouster of the president Askar Akayev since the parliamentary elections in Kyrgyzstan held February 27 and March 13. It claimed massive fraud during the election as the country’s parliament will now be formed pro-powerly.

Massive rallies in the streets of southern cities of Kyrgyzstan quikly spread all over the country. On Tuesday, people of the northern Tallas region took to the streets chanting «Akayev go!» slogans.

Earlier this week people from Tallas demanded the ouster for the government, the Central Election Commission and the Supreme Court.

Kyrgyz president Askar Akayev said Monday that the Central Election Commission and the Supreme Court will conduct an exhaustive probe over the possible fraud in the elections where the majority was formed out of neutral and pro-power deputies.

Nineteen out of 71 deputies of the new parliament are from the pro-power political party that is called «Alga, Kyrgyzstan!», including presidents daughter Bermet Akayeva. Five deputies belong to another pro-power party «Adilet».
