The EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana said Wednesday it is not justified to keep arms embargo on China regarding its efforts to resolve its human rights issue.
"It is not justified to maintain (the embargo). Things are moving (on human rights)," Solana said in Brussels, according to Reuters.
China has certain progress in resolving human rights problems in the country. That made EU work towards lifting the 15-year embargo by the end of June.
The embargo was imposed on China in 1989 after the slaughtering in Tiananmen Square in Beijing. Earlier this month, French President Jacques Chirac made an attempt to end the embargo.
The embargo may not be lifted in time, some analysts say, due to the strong opposition of the US and the law passed by the Chinese parliament that allows to use force if Taiwan proclaims independence from mainland China.
