Tora Bora detainee helped Bin Laden to escape from US troops, assisted al Qaeda
A detainee captured in the Afghani mountain region of Tora Bora helped Osama Bin Laden to escape from the US troops and assisted al Qaeda in its terrorist activity, a document revealed by the US government showed.

The document was released in response to a Freedom of Information request. An unidentified detainee held at Guantanamo Bay ’’assisted in the escape of Osama bin Laden from Tora Bora,’’ is said in the document.

It is not specified in the document who detainee is by name or nationality.

He was a commander for Osama Bin Laden during the Soviet occupation in the 1980s which was called by the document «the Soviet jihad.»

Tora Bora is a mountainous area in Afghanistan that was bombarded by the US warplanes in December 2001. The failure for the operation in Tora Bora raised many questions as to whether Bin Laden was there and if he was why the US troops missed the chance to grab him. "We don’t know to this day whether Mr. bin Laden was at Tora Bora," said General Tommy Franks writing in the New York Times.

President Bush said about the accusation from his presidential elections campaign John Kerry: "My opponent (John Kerry) is throwing out the wild claim that he knows where bin Laden was in the fall of 2001 and that our military had a chance to get him in Tora Bora."
