Cruel clashes started in the Kyrgyz capital of Bishkek as riot police began to use force towards the opposition in the streets that demands ouster of the country’s president Akayev.
The opposition demands Askar Akayev to step down and the recent parliamentary elections to be revised. The opposition leaders claimed massive fraud during the elections.
The opposition and riot police throw stones at each other, local media reports.
Riot police tries to protect the building of the Akayev administration from the infuriated opposition. Officials warn that riot police may use force to restore order and soothe tension in the country.
Earlier, Akayev fired two law enforcement officials that failed to keep order in the country. He also forced the Central Election Commission and the Supreme Court to conduct an exhaustive probe over possible fraud in the elections.
Nineteen out of 71 deputies of the new parliament are from the pro-power political party called «Alga, Kyrgyzstan!», including the president’s daughter Bermet Akayeva. Five deputies belong to another pro-power party «Adilet».
