Indian oil minister Mani Shankar Aiyar has an option to visit Pakistan in the course of negotiations over the pipeline that will carry Iranian natural gas through Pakistan to South Asia. The visit is scheduled for May.
A $4-billion project of a pipeline is expected to be the beginning of improving relations between the countries that have been fighting for years.
"There are a whole lot of issues that will be discussed when I visit Pakistan," said Mr. Aiyar.
Aiyar ia also planning to visit Iran in June to continue negotiations.
760 km of the 2,600-km onland pipeline will pass through Pakistan in case Aiyar succeeds in negotiations.
India is now importing 70% of its crude oil with 26% of the oil total coming from Saudi Arabia.
