On Monday, new parliament started its work in Kyrgyzstan after being acknowledged by the Central Election Commission.
The Parliament’s new speaker, Omurbek Tekebayev, was chosen 56-63 Monday by a secret-vote ballot, according to the Russian mass-media.
Mr. Tekebayev, Kyrgyz opposition leader, has twice been running for the president’s chair, and has been the parliament’s vice-speaker.
The country’s formal president Askar Akayev has fled the country after the mass riots started all over the country in an attempt to cancel parliamentary elections results.
Still, new parliament speaker said they need to negotiate with Akayev on his possible resignation. "We need the incumbent Kyrgyz president to formally resign so that pre-term presidential elections can be scheduled. If we fail to hold official negotiations, we will have to take unconstitutional steps for the sake of stabilizing the republic," Tekebayev said.
