Felix Kulov, the former opposition leader announced today about his retirement from the post of Kyrgyzstan’s law enforcement agencies’ coordinator. He also said that the order has been restored after the chaos sparked by last week’s overthrow of President Askar Akayev.
Akayev said he would formally resign if given legal protections - the first sign the longtime leader might be willing to yield power.
The parliament session started with announcing Kuvalov’s decision and Akayev security guarantees.
“We guarantee Akayev his personal security, the security of his property and free movement,” Kulov said.
Kyrgyzstan is the third former Soviet republic in the past 18 months after Georgia and Ukraine where the opposition is swept to power after mass protests against long-time leaders deep-rooted in the power.
