UK elections set on May 5, Blair probably to win

May 5 was set to be the date for UK general elections, Prime Minister Tony Blair said today.
Blair and his Labour party are supposed to have all chances for victory. In the Downing Street announcement in London, Tony Blair said that the campaign of these elections will be focused on economic strengthening and public services’ improvements.
``There’s no overwhelming reason to turf the government out,’’ said Robert Waller, co-author of ``The Almanac of British Politics.’’ ``Unemployment and inflation are still under control.’’
``This coming election does indeed pose a choice -- either we move forward to a Britain united in building long term economic success and opportunity for all or we turn backwards to the old Britain of economic instability and social division,’’ Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown said in a speech today.
Since Blair came to power in 1997, the country quickly did away with inflation and experienced economy growth every quarter.
``The British people expect their prime minister to be straight with them, to tell them the truth, to keep their promises, a prime minister they can trust,’’ Howard, 63, said March 12 in a speech at a Conservative Party rally in Brighton, England.
