Iran said it would not quit its nuclear enrichment program despite the international pressure and the allures from the EU.
Iran’s President Mohammad Khatami said Iran would not abandon its nuclear activities as the uranium will not be used for nuclear weapons.
"The Europeans have to understand that the (Nuclear) Non-Proliferation Treaty and international agreements allow us to possess nuclear technology for peaceful purposes," he said.
Iran had talks with the UK, France and Germany for receiving trade and technology benefits in case it drops its nuclear project. Khatami stressed that enriched uranium can be used to produce fuel for nuclear power plants.
"We are ready to consider any reasonable solution, but we refuse to suspend our activities for good," Khatami said in an interview to French newspaper Le Figaro.
